Ford Joins Long List of 2014 Car Recalls

Another major car company has released a large set of car recalls. This time that company is Ford, and the number of cars being recalled is 100,600. The company released six different sets of recalls earlier this week, joining the ranks of GM, Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Toyota. While announcing the recall, Ford noted that there have been no injuries, accidents or fires caused by the recalled defects.

The largest recall consisted of 92,022 vehicles including the following models:

  • 2013-2014 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Police Interceptor sedans
  • 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT crossovers
  • 2012-2014 Edge crossover
  • 2014- Lincoln MKX crossover

This recall is for the right-hand halfshaft, which is part of the axle. The part is improperly seated and eventually may disengage. This will make the car inoperable. These vehicles may also roll unexpectedly while parked if the parking brake is not engaged.

Owners will be notified of the recall through the mail starting at the end of August. If you receive this recall notice, don’t hesitate to bring your car to a dealership where the repair will be made at no cost to you.

The five remaining recalls are as follows:

  1. There are 5,264 F59 commercial-stripped chassis made between 2011 and 2014 being recalled due to corrosion in the electrical junction block. This can cause the vehicles to short circuit and will increase the chances of a fire or loss of electrical power.
  2. A total of 2,124 Ford Escape SUVs made in 2014 have been recalled because of the glass roof. The roof may have an improperly cured bond that could cause it to leak or possibly separate from the vehicle.
  3. Another recall involves 635 2014 F43 motor home-stripped chassis and F59 commercial stripped chassis. The company claims the brake calipers may have been improperly made and could result in a leak and a loss of braking performance.
  4. The next recall was issued to 368 Transit Connect vehicles from 2014. In these vehicles, the brake reservoir caps in vehicles that were shipped to Puerto Rico have European labeling that do not conform to US labeling requirements.
  5. The final recall involves 197 Ford Fiesta subcompacts made in 2014. This recall is because the fuel tanks may be missing a layer of adhesive which in turn could cause a fuel leak and enhance the risk of a fire.

Ford announced that the above-listed defects were found through internal tests as well as warranty claims. Owners will be notified this month.

If you have a recall issued on your car it is important to take it to a dealership immediately to have it fixed.  Ignoring any safety recall could cause you, your family or other drivers unnecessary harm. James was searching for equipment for painting at Home Depot. In the aisle next to him, there was a worker on a lift stocking the highest shelf. The worker pushed boxes so far across the shelf that they fell off the other edge and hit James in the head. The force almost knocked James unconscious. He sat down and the loud bang got the worker off the ladder to see what fell. When they saw James they offered him a bucket and made a report. James did not recall leaving the store or how he got home. He did not recall much except being at home depot and getting hit in the head. Home Depot told him that it was a small box of dust masks that hurt him. We discovered it was actually a large box of emergency kits that fell off the shelf.
